Tripura CM Dr. Saha and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reviewed the proposed Matabari Tourist Circuit, a 4-night, 5-day itinerary aimed at boosting Tripura’s tourism infrastructure, employment opportunities, and regional cultural heritage across key destinations.
Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Saha, today attended a high-level review meeting with the Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, to discuss the progress and prospects of the proposed Matabari Tourist Circuit Project. The meeting focused on transforming Tripura’s tourism potential into a holistic experience that combines heritage, spirituality, and natural beauty.
The proposed Matabari Tourist Circuit has been designed as a 4-night, 5-day travel route, covering prominent destinations such as Agartala, Neermahal, Sepahijala, Udaipur, Chabimura, and Dumboor. Each location represents a unique aspect of Tripura’s cultural richness, ecological diversity, and religious heritage.

During the meeting, DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed keen interest in the proposal and responded positively to the developmental vision outlined by the Tripura Government. He assured full support from the Ministry of DoNER in mobilizing funds for key infrastructure and developmental components under the project.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized that the initiative is not merely a tourism project but a strategic vision to strengthen Tripura’s economy and identity within the North Eastern region.
“Joined a review meeting with Hon’ble Minister, DoNER Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Ji regarding the Matabari Tourist Circuit. The proposed circuit is designed for 4 nights and 5 days, covering Agartala – Neermahal – Sepahijala – Udaipur – Chabimura – Dumboor, showcasing Tripura’s diverse natural beauty and cultural heritage. The Hon’ble Minister responded positively to the proposal and assured support for funding various developmental works under this circuit. This initiative will further boost tourism infrastructure, create local employment opportunities, and promote Tripura as a holistic tourist destination in the North East,” said Dr. Saha.
A Vision for Holistic Tourism Development
The Matabari Tourist Circuit aims to integrate natural beauty, cultural heritage, and spiritual tourism. Udaipur’s Matabari temple — a major Shakti Peetha dedicated to Goddess Tripureshwari — is at the heart of the project, making it a spiritual anchor for both domestic and international tourists.
By linking destinations like Neermahal, India’s only water palace, Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its biodiversity, and the Chabimura rock carvings, the circuit seeks to offer travelers an immersive experience of Tripura’s heritage and ecology.
Boost to Infrastructure and Employment
According to the Chief Minister, the Matabari Circuit will involve large-scale improvements in connectivity, accommodation, transportation, and visitor amenities. The government plans to strengthen road infrastructure, improve tourist facilities, and develop eco-friendly resorts and homestays that benefit local communities.

Dr. Saha noted that this project will create significant employment opportunities for local youth, particularly in the hospitality, transport, and handicraft sectors. By promoting homestays and small-scale tourism enterprises, the circuit aims to ensure that economic benefits reach grassroots levels.
DoNER’s Commitment to North Eastern Growth
Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to supporting the North Eastern states in unlocking their tourism potential. He highlighted that the Ministry of DoNER has prioritized tourism-led growth as a means to strengthen regional connectivity, cultural exchange, and sustainable livelihoods.
Scindia praised Tripura’s recent progress in tourism infrastructure and lauded the state’s efforts under Dr. Saha’s leadership to align tourism development with cultural preservation and environmental sustainability.
Tripura’s Emerging Tourism Identity
In recent years, Tripura has been steadily gaining attention as a serene and culturally rich destination in the North East. With its royal palaces, temples, lakes, and forested hills, the state offers a blend of spiritual tourism, eco-tourism, and heritage exploration.
The proposed Matabari Tourist Circuit is expected to strengthen Tripura’s position on India’s tourism map and attract visitors from across the country and abroad. The initiative also aligns with the Government of India’s vision of promoting “Dekho Apna Desh” and fostering regional growth through sustainable tourism.
