According to the latest update by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, Cyclonic storm Montha is located at 600 km east-southeast of Chennai in the Bay of Bengal. The prediction is that it is likely to continue to move west-northwest over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours before intensifying into a severe cyclonic storm by tomorrow. Fishermen have been asked to stay away from the seas till the 29th.
The sky remains gloomy since yesterday with intermittent light to moderate showers in Chennai and neighbouring districts sharing borders with Andhra. But the sea remains boisterous. As rains are heavy in Andhra, the catchment areas of reservoirs supplying water to Chennai are experiencing heavy rains, resulting in an increase in the inflow of water, and the surplus water is being released to the sea.
