At least three people were injured in two separate clashes on Dashami night in Agartala, sparking outrage and political criticism. Allegations of harassment, law-and-order concerns, and opposition attacks on the government’s “good governance” claim have intensified the debate on public safety.
Agartala witnessed a night of unrest during the Dashami celebrations, with at least three people injured in two separate incidents of physical assault. Both clashes, which took place on the night of Dashami in different parts of the city, have raised serious concerns over public safety during festive gatherings.
Family assaulted at Radhanagar fair
The first incident occurred at the Netaji Platform Centre fair near Radhanagar, where a family outing turned violent. According to reports, a man requested club volunteers to allow his wife and young son to take two additional rounds on a merry-go-round ride. Instead of accommodating the request, an argument ensued, escalating into a physical attack.
Eyewitnesses claim the man was beaten by a group of club members and pushed to the ground. His wife, who rushed to protect him, alleged that some of the volunteers manhandled her and touched her inappropriately during the altercation. The woman’s complaints added a layer of outrage, sparking condemnation over the alleged misbehavior with female visitors at the fairground.
Emergency services were contacted through helpline 112, but before the police could arrive, the attackers reportedly fled the spot. The injured couple was initially taken to IGM Hospital for treatment. Later, doctors shifted them to GBP Hospital for further medical care.
Clash in front of City Centre
On the same night, another violent episode unfolded in front of City Centre, one of the busiest commercial hubs of Agartala. A man and his son were allegedly attacked by unidentified individuals, leaving both injured. Tensions escalated the following morning when the victim’s wife fainted inside the West Agartala Police Station after spotting some of the alleged attackers loitering near the premises.
This incident triggered further political reactions, particularly from the opposition. Leaders from the Tripura Women’s Congress visited the police station to meet the victims’ family and express solidarity.
Opposition slams government’s ‘good governance’ claims
Addressing the media, one of the Women’s Congress leaders sharply criticised the state government, alleging that the attacks reflect a breakdown in law and order in the capital city. Referring to the ruling government’s repeated claims of maintaining “good governance,” she questioned how such violent incidents could occur so openly in central Agartala.
“Where is good governance when such incidents take place at City Centre in Agartala, the capital of Tripura?” she asked, pointing out that the attackers appeared to act with impunity, leaving a husband and son badly injured.
The leader further added that women’s safety during festivals must be taken more seriously and accused the authorities of failing to provide adequate security measures during large gatherings.
Public outrage and concerns over safety
Both incidents, though separate, have drawn public outrage. Residents expressed concern over the increasing number of violent confrontations during festive celebrations in recent years. Many locals also questioned whether police deployment during Dashami night was adequate, given the large turnout of people across the city.
The allegations of harassment against a woman at the Radhanagar fair have also stirred anger among women’s groups. Activists are demanding a thorough investigation into the matter and immediate action against those responsible.
Police response
Police sources confirmed that complaints had been lodged in both cases. While no arrests had been made at the time of reporting, officials assured that investigations were underway and promised to bring the culprits to justice.
However, critics argue that unless strict action is taken quickly, such incidents will erode public trust in law enforcement and deter families from participating in cultural celebrations.

The twin clashes on Dashami night have not only left three people injured but have also sparked political and public debates about safety and governance in Tripura’s capital city. As the opposition amplifies its criticism, the spotlight now rests on the authorities to demonstrate whether their claims of “good governance” hold true in the face of growing concerns over law and order.
