Indian para-athlete Nishad Kumar claimed his maiden gold medal at the World Para Athletics Championships in the men’s high jump T47 category in New Delhi today. Nishad cleared an impressive height of 2.14m on his first attempt, surpassing his previous best of 2.09m, which he had set at the previous edition of the championships in Paris in 2023. In the sprint, Simran Sharma delivered a historic performance in the women’s 100m T12 sprint, winning gold with a new personal best of 11.95 seconds. Nishad and Simran’s gold medals marked India’s fifth and sixth triumphs at the World Para Athletics Championships.
