PM Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on September 22 to launch multi-crore infrastructure, border development, and cultural projects, including the Frontier Highway, hydroelectric plants, Vibrant Village Programme, and the redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple.

After completing a two-day tour of Manipur, Mizoram, and Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue his outreach to the north-eastern region with a day-long visit to Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on September 22. According to official sources, the visit will focus on major infrastructure, energy, border development, and cultural projects that underline the Centre’s commitment to the growth of the north-eastern states.

Arunachal Pradesh: Frontier Highway, Hydroelectric Projects, and Vibrant Village Programme

During his visit to Arunachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi will launch projects worth several thousand crores. At the heart of these initiatives is the foundation stone for the ambitious 1,830-kilometre-long Frontier Highway project, designed to run parallel to the McMahon Line. Stretching from Bomdila in West Kameng district to Vijaynagar in Changlang district, the highway will significantly enhance national security and improve border connectivity in one of India’s most sensitive frontier regions.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to lay the foundation stones virtually for two major hydroelectric projects: the 186-MW Tato-I and the 240-MW Heo project, both to be constructed over the Yarjep River in Shi Yomi district. These projects are expected to boost energy generation capacity and contribute to Arunachal Pradesh’s growing role in India’s renewable energy sector.

Another significant launch will be the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP). From Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar, PM Modi will unveil the initiative aimed at bringing development to 122 strategically located villages along India’s international borders. Of these, 67 villages are situated along the India-Myanmar border, while 55 are along the India-Bhutan border.

The second phase of the programme will provide these villages with all-weather roads, 4G telecom services, and on-grid electrification. The Ministry of Home Affairs has already sanctioned ₹2,205 crore for the initiative, while the total outlay for the programme stands at ₹6,839 crore. The VVP, to be implemented until FY 2028-29, covers multiple states and union territories, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, and even border states like Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

Officials emphasized that the Vibrant Village Programme’s objective is not only to provide modern amenities but also to strengthen internal security. By improving livelihoods and integrating border residents into the mainstream, the programme seeks to make villagers active stakeholders in safeguarding national borders.

Additionally, PM Modi will virtually inaugurate an integrated convention centre at Tawang, underscoring the government’s focus on boosting connectivity and promoting Arunachal Pradesh as a hub for tourism and cultural exchanges.

The state government has made extensive preparations for the Prime Minister’s arrival, including road beautification, security enhancements, and stage setups for a massive public gathering where PM Modi is expected to address citizens.

Tripura: Redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple to be Inaugurated

On the same day, the Prime Minister will travel to Tripura, where his visit will be marked by a significant cultural and religious event. He will inaugurate the redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple in Udaipur, Gomati district—one of the 51 revered Shakti Peethas of Hinduism.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed that the Prime Minister will arrive in Agartala on September 22 afternoon and proceed to Udaipur, located 65 kilometres from the state capital. After inaugurating the redeveloped temple complex and offering puja at the historic Kali temple, PM Modi will return to Agartala and depart for Delhi. Unlike in Arunachal Pradesh, no public address is scheduled during his visit to Tripura.

The redevelopment of the 524-year-old temple was carried out under the PRASHAD scheme (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) of the Union Tourism Ministry, at a cost of ₹52 crore. The Tripura government contributed an additional ₹7 crore to the project. The revamped temple complex aims to boost spiritual tourism in the region, offering enhanced amenities for pilgrims while preserving the cultural heritage of the site.

A Strategic and Cultural Push in Northeast India

Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visits to Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura highlight the Centre’s dual focus on strategic infrastructure and cultural heritage in the northeastern states. From projects that strengthen national security and border connectivity to those enhancing renewable energy capacity and spiritual tourism, the initiatives reflect a holistic approach to regional development.

Officials in both states confirmed that preparations are underway at a war footing to ensure smooth execution of the programmes and visits. With these initiatives, the Prime Minister’s September 22 trip is expected to significantly impact the socio-economic and cultural landscape of both Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura, further reinforcing the government’s emphasis on integrating the Northeast with the national mainstream.
