Tapasya Wins India’s First Gold at U20 World Wrestling Championships 2025 in Bulgaria

Indian wrestler Tapsya clinched the nation’s first gold medal at the U20 World Wrestling Championships 2025 in Bulgaria. Tapasya defeated Norway’s Felicitas Domajeva 5-2 in the women’s 57kg category final yesterday. The Asian U20 championship gold medallist started her campaign by pinning Dolzhon Tsyngueva when she was already winning 6-0. Next, she defeated France’s Romaissa El Kharroubi quickly in the quarter-finals. Then, she won a tight match against Japan’s Sowaka Uchida 4-3 in the semi-finals.
 
 
 
 
 
In the women’s 68kg category, India’s Srishti won silver after losing 0-7 to Japan’s Ray Hoshino in the final. Srishti had defeated Germany’s Laura Koehler 7-3 in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Priya Malik and Reena reached the finals in their respective categories. Priya dominated Serbia’s Evelin Ujhelji 10-0 in the women’s 76kg semi-final, while Reena beat Romania’s Voiculescu Alexandra 11-1 in the 55kg category.
 
 
 
 
In the men’s event, Sumit Malik settled for a silver medal after a 5-8 loss to Russia’s Magomed Odzamiro in the 57 kg category on Tuesday. So far, Indian wrestlers have won three medals, including one gold and two silver, at the U20 World Wrestling Championships 2025. In last year’s world championships in Spain, India returned with seven medals, one gold, one silver and five bronze. Jyoti Berwal bagged the solitary gold in the women’s 76kg.
