The formal inauguration of the 18th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics will be held in Mumbai today. Principal Scientific Adviser Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy Dr. Ajay Kumar Mohanty, Former Vice President of the International Astronomical Union Prof. Ajit Kembhavi, and others will be present at the event.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, Director of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, which is hosting the event, Prof. Arnab Bhattacharya, said that this edition of the competition will be the grandest so far, with a total of 288 students from 64 countries participating.
While elaborating on the aim of this 10-day competition, President of the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics Prof. Aniket Sule said, from India, a team of five students will participate in the competition, led by Harvinder Kaur Jassal and Jasjeet Singh Bagla of IISER Mohali.
