US President Donald Trump said that he will be meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15. In a social media post on Truth Social yesterday, Trump has confirmed he will meet with his Russian counterpart Putin in Alaska to discuss efforts to end the war in Ukraine. This comes after steadily building talks between the two leaders since the US President returned to office.
Trump’s announcement came just hours after unveiling a peace framework between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the White House, part of what he has billed as an aggressive push to resolve multiple global conflicts. Trump has not met with Putin in person since returning to the White House in January. Putin’s trip to Alaska will be his first to the US in a decade. The last time Russia’s leader was in the country was for a meeting with President Barack Obama at the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2015.
The announcement came just hours after Trump told reporters he planned to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine with Putin.
