Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha urged the use of drones to identify illegal ganja cultivation during a key Task Monitoring meeting. He also emphasized improving law enforcement, urban traffic, healthcare infrastructure, and citizen engagement to streamline governance and accelerate development across the state.

In a proactive step towards strengthening law enforcement and ensuring better governance, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday directed authorities to deploy drone surveillance to detect and eliminate illegal ganja cultivation across the state. The directive was issued during a comprehensive Task Monitoring System review meeting held at the Secretariat’s Video Conference Hall.

The meeting was attended virtually by top state officials, including secretaries and directors of various departments, along with District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from all eight districts of Tripura. The high-level meeting aimed to review the state’s law and order situation and streamline ongoing developmental projects across various sectors.

Focus on Law Enforcement and Illegal Cultivation

In a detailed assessment of the law and order scenario, Chief Minister Dr. Saha expressed serious concern over the increasing instances of illegal cannabis farming in remote areas of Tripura. He proposed the strategic use of drone technology as an effective tool to identify ganja cultivation zones, particularly in hard-to-reach and forested terrains.

“Drones can help law enforcement agencies detect and monitor illegal ganja plantations that are often hidden deep within remote rural and forest areas. This technology will be a game-changer in improving surveillance and enabling timely intervention,” said Dr. Saha.

He further emphasized the need for law enforcement agencies to actively engage with the public to foster trust and build a more citizen-friendly image. “Maintaining a positive perception of the police and administrative machinery among the people is vital for effective governance and long-term public cooperation,” he added.

Addressing Urban Challenges: Traffic and Infrastructure

In addition to law enforcement, the Chief Minister also highlighted the growing problem of traffic congestion in Agartala, the state capital. Dr. Saha instructed the relevant departments to study the possibility of mandating garage space for all vehicle owners in the city. The move, if implemented, is expected to reduce on-road parking and improve vehicular flow on busy city roads.

On the infrastructure front, the review included an evaluation of progress in various construction projects overseen by the Public Works Department (PWD). The Chief Minister stressed the importance of timely completion and quality control in all developmental works.

Strengthening the Healthcare System

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to healthcare infrastructure. Dr. Saha directed the Health Department to ensure that all oxygen plants and ventilator systems in government-run hospitals and medical facilities are in proper working condition. He emphasized that these lifesaving facilities must remain operational and efficient, particularly in the wake of recent public health challenges and emergencies.

Boosting Education and Electricity Supply

The review also touched on the status of educational infrastructure and power supply across the state. The Chief Minister called for consistent monitoring and upgradation of school facilities to support a better learning environment for students. He also asked power department officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, particularly in rural and tribal areas where reliability remains an issue.

A Unified Vision for Development

Dr. Saha reiterated that insights gathered from the Task Monitoring System would form the basis for Tripura’s future development roadmap. “This system allows us to identify real-time issues and take timely corrective action. It’s a valuable tool for efficient governance,” he stated.

He lauded the efforts of the various departments and urged them to work in close coordination to resolve public grievances swiftly and effectively. The Chief Minister concluded the session by calling for a unified approach among departments to accelerate the pace of development and improve overall public service delivery.
