Maharashtra govt considers challenging HC decision to acquit  2006 train blasts’ accused

Must Read

The Maharashtra government is considering challenging the Bombay High Court’s decision to acquit all 12 accused in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts case. Speaking to reporters, State Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the government will first study the court’s order and assess its legal merits before deciding on the next step. He said if the state has any additional information, CM Devendra Fadnavis will present it in detail.
The High Court, today, overturned the 2015 convictions, stating that the prosecution failed to prove the charges. The judges noted that even the type of bombs used wasn’t clearly established, and the evidence presented was not sufficient for conviction.
The blasts, which occurred on 11th July 2006, killed over 180 people and injured several others across Mumbai’s suburban train network.
Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya today visited Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Iqbal Singh Chahal at the state secretariat along with victims’ families and claimed that CM Devendra Fadnavis assured them of swift legal action and expert consultation.
