Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik briefed President Murmu on key development initiatives under ‘Viksit Arunachal’, highlighting progress in health, education, women’s empowerment, and biodiversity conservation. The meeting emphasized inclusive growth, cooperative federalism, and Arunachal’s role in achieving the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) met with President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi on Friday and briefed her on the transformative initiatives being undertaken by the state government to ensure inclusive growth and upliftment in the strategically important frontier state.
During the high-level meeting, Governor Parnaik emphasized Arunachal Pradesh’s strong commitment to the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India), aligning it with the state’s own development roadmap, ‘Viksit Arunachal’. He detailed the multi-sectoral efforts aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens across the remote and diverse regions of the state.
Arunachal Pradesh, which shares international borders with China (1,080 km), Myanmar (520 km), and Bhutan (217 km), holds significant strategic importance. Governor Parnaik underlined that the developmental efforts being undertaken are not only aimed at improving living standards but also at strengthening the state’s resilience and equity in the context of its geographic and socio-political complexities.
Highlighting the state’s progress across several critical areas, the Governor informed the President about initiatives in public health, education, youth empowerment, and women’s welfare. He made special mention of the Raj Bhavan’s proactive campaign in the fight against tuberculosis, a major health concern in remote tribal areas. Under his leadership, Raj Bhavan has spearheaded community-level health interventions and collaborated with public health agencies to address healthcare delivery challenges in far-flung areas.
Governor Parnaik also stressed the importance of empowering women and youth as central pillars of Arunachal Pradesh’s growth strategy. He noted the implementation of skill development programs, entrepreneurship support for women, and youth leadership initiatives that aim to foster self-reliance and innovation at the grassroots level.
Education and infrastructure improvements were also discussed, with the Governor informing the President about significant steps being taken to enhance access to quality education and digital learning in rural and tribal belts. These reforms are being implemented in close coordination with local stakeholders, community leaders, and educational institutions.
In a symbolic yet meaningful gesture, the Governor, accompanied by the First Lady of the State, Anagha Parnaik, presented President Murmu with a copy of Orchids of Arunachal Pradesh — a visually rich and meticulously curated reference book that showcases the exceptional biodiversity of the region. Arunachal Pradesh is home to many rare and endemic orchid species, several of which are of global botanical significance. The book aims to raise awareness about the conservation of these valuable plant resources and promote eco-tourism in the state.
Furthermore, Governor Parnaik briefed the President on the state government’s follow-up actions on key issues discussed during the last Governors’ Conference. He reaffirmed Arunachal’s dedication to cooperative federalism and its role in fulfilling national development priorities. He described how the state is working closely with the Centre to ensure timely compliance and implementation of decisions made at national forums.
The Governor concluded his presentation by reiterating his commitment to building a more inclusive, equitable, and developed Arunachal Pradesh through transparent governance, citizen engagement, and targeted interventions in underserved regions.
