PM Modi declared that West Bengal’s development is impossible under Trinamool Congress rule, citing industrial decline, law and order issues, and youth migration. Speaking at a Durgapur rally, Modi said only a BJP-led government can revive the state’s economy and restore investor confidence and public safety.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a political rally held in the industrial township of Durgapur, West Burdwan district, on Friday. Addressing a massive gathering organized by the BJP’s West Bengal unit, PM Modi claimed that the socio-economic development of West Bengal would remain stagnant as long as the TMC continues to govern the state.
“To make the development of West Bengal possible, the Trinamool Congress will have to go. Only the BJP can make this happen,” PM Modi declared to loud cheers from the audience. He added, “If the BJP comes to power in West Bengal, the state will emerge as one of the most industrially developed in the country.”
Citing examples from other eastern states, the Prime Minister pointed to the progress made in Tripura and Odisha under BJP governance. “Tripura is witnessing remarkable development since the BJP came to power. Similarly, Odisha is moving fast toward becoming one of the most industrialized states,” he said, drawing a contrast with the current state of affairs in Bengal.
PM Modi also painted a grim picture of the state’s employment situation. “Earlier, people used to come to Kolkata from other parts of the country to find work. But now, the youth of Bengal are migrating out of the state—even for menial jobs,” he lamented.
He attributed the lack of investment and industrial stagnation in Bengal to political and administrative failures. Referring to recent incidents in the state, the Prime Minister said the communal riots in Murshidabad, a minority-dominated district, have created an environment of fear among potential investors. He alleged that these riots occurred under the tacit support of a section of TMC leaders and biased police officials.
“In West Bengal, the police administration acts in a blatantly biased manner during such incidents,” he said. “Because of the extortion rackets run by Trinamool leaders, no industrialist wants to invest in Bengal. The atmosphere is unsafe and unwelcoming for industry.”
The Prime Minister did not shy away from highlighting the law and order issues either. He cited the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor within the premises of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in August last year and the rape of a law student inside her college campus in South Kolkata’s Kasba area just last month.
“These two back-to-back incidents have shocked the nation,” said Modi. “In both cases, the ruling party and the administration tried to shield the accused instead of ensuring justice. Such a governance model can never lead to progress.”
PM Modi urged the people of Bengal to vote for change in the upcoming elections, promising a transparent administration, an investor-friendly atmosphere, and improved law and order under BJP rule. He emphasized that only a shift in power can pave the way for real progress and transform Bengal into a thriving economic powerhouse.
“The time has come for the Bengal to rise again. And for that, TMC must go,” the Prime Minister concluded.

The rally in Durgapur marks the beginning of BJP’s intensified campaign push in Bengal, ahead of the state assembly elections. The party is focusing on the issues of industrial development, employment generation, and women’s safety—areas where it believes the TMC has failed significantly.
