In Jammu and Kashmir, despite overcast weather conditions in the higher reaches of Kashmir, the annual Amarnath Yatra continues to progress smoothly, with thousands of devotees undertaking the pilgrimage to the holy cave. Under strict security arrangements, the 15th batch of 6064 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp for the Kashmir valley in the wee hours today to perform pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave Shrine. The pilgrims left the base camp in a cavalcade of 234 vehicles.
Our Correspondent reports that 13 thousand 490 pilgrims performed darshan at the holy cave yesterday, including 9,096 males, 3,456 females, 199 children, 81 sadhus and sadhvis. 568 security personnel also availed of darshan. The cumulative number of yatris who have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine so far this year has now reached 2 lakh 34 thousand 1. Of these, 2471 pilgrims left for the Baltal base camp and 3593 for the Pahalgam base camp.
