ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury came down heavily on the opposition Congress and CPM for making unfounded and false allegations of rape against his ministerial colleague Bhagaban Das’ son. The Congress and CPM in the wake of Kumarghat gang rape incident targeting Labour Minister Bhagaban Das’ son alleging that he was also one of the culprits in the incident.

“But the fact is he was nowhere named – neither in the FIR nor the victim ever uttered his name. Besides the minister’s son not present in Kumarghat when the incident took place”, said Chowdhury in a press conference at BJP headquarters here.

“The incident took place on October 19 and he was out of Kumarghat since October 10 last. The CCTV footage of his stay in Agartala during that period is also available with the police”, Chowdhury pointed out.

Chowdhury maintained that what the Congress and CPM were doing was purely a dirty game and fully politically motivated to bring slur on Bhagaban Das’ family.

He strongly condemned the incident and said, police had already begun a probe into the incident and arrested six persons in connection with the rape incident.

Meanwhile, a police statement said the case was registered at Fatikroy police station under sections 376(3)/ 109 of IPC and section 4 of POCSO Act. Medical check-up of the victim was done and her judicial statement was recorded. Six persons were arrested in connection with the incident.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim girl was allured by her friend (another girl) and was taken to a rented house at Kumarghat where she was given a drink. Subsequently the girl was gang-raped,” the press release said.

On the firing incident at Natunnagar, Chowdhury said, police solved the case very quickly. He said, the government and the ruling party maintain zero tolerance against corruption and law and order issues.

He reminded the people that SDM Sadar Sukram Debbarma was shot dead in his chamber and minister Bimal Sinha was also killed but the then ruling CPI-M couldn’t arrest the killers.
