In swift police actions in the wake of the shooting incident on Tuesday night at Natunnagar bazaar in which two persons were injured, two assailants Prabhakar Ghosh and Santosh Das were arrested. Two cars were also seized as they were suspected to have been used by the shooters during the incident.
The two suspected shooters were picked up by the police within hours of the incident, and according to sources, some more are also likely to be arrested in connection with the shooting incident.
The shooters who arrived in in front of a food outlet at Natunnagar bazaar at the outskirt of the city and opened fire from pistols at Sanjay Das and Haripada Das.
The arrested persons- Prabhakar Ghosh and Santosh Das were produced before the court and remanded to police custody for five days.
An official release said, police is using scientific aid and other forensic technique for the investigation.
According to police, further investigation is going on and more people are likely to be arrested in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, two people- Haripada Das and Sanjoy Das received bullet injuries in the incident and they are now under treatment.
Police sources said , there could be some more arrest onn the basis of the confessions of the two arrested. It was not yet clear what prompted the assailants to launch the murderous attack on the two, but police suspected that it could be fall out of negotiation business rivalry or smuggling cases. The Airport road area where the firing took place and where the shooters and injured all were active of late witnessing massive facelift, especially after the MBB airport was declared International airport-with crores of rupees being spent for development works. There were reportedly several groups active who were engaged in illegal negotiations and other shady activities and often they got entangled in serious business rivalry. One among the arrested Prabhakar Ghosh happened to be an influential persons in the area.
