Bengaluru hosts the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, a World Athletics Gold meet featuring global javelin stars including Neeraj Chopra and Thomas Röhler. The revamped Sree Kanteerava Stadium sets the stage for a landmark sporting event that celebrates India’s rising track and field talent and international ambition.

Bengaluru is buzzing with excitement as the city prepares to host the much-anticipated Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, a World Athletics Gold-level meet, at the historic Sree Kanteerava Stadium this Saturday. With the stadium dazzling under lights and fans pouring in from across the region, the event has become a celebration of athletic excellence and national pride.

Sanctioned by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and jointly organised by JSW Sports and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra, the meet has drawn top-tier javelin throwers from around the world. At the forefront is Chopra himself, joined by 2016 Rio Olympic gold medallist Thomas Röhler and a strong contingent of international competitors, all ready to battle it out for top honors.

As the athletes wrapped up their final training sessions on Friday, the atmosphere in Bengaluru turned electric. With a pleasant breeze blowing across the city, javelin stars could be seen fine-tuning their throws, focusing on every technical detail in anticipation of a high-stakes showdown.

But the event is more than just a global athletic meet — it is fast becoming a symbol of India’s sporting renaissance. The Neeraj Chopra Classic stands as a testament to the rising profile of track and field sports in India and the emergence of javelin throw as a marquee discipline, largely inspired by Chopra’s own journey.

Earlier in the day, young Indian athletes were seen training intently on the stadium’s side grounds, showcasing the depth of grassroots talent ready to step into the limelight. In the stands, excitement was palpable as school children, many attending such an event for the first time, eagerly awaited their idols with wide eyes and camera phones ready.

To match the stature of the event, Sree Kanteerava Stadium has undergone an extensive transformation. Seating arrangements across several stands have been upgraded, with corporate and VVIP boxes installed in the North Stand to accommodate dignitaries and sponsors. A pitch-side hospitality zone has been introduced to offer spectators a close-up view of the runway and field events, ensuring a world-class experience for all in attendance.

An entertainment stage in the South Stand will host performances during breaks, while the main turf has been freshly re-laid to meet global standards and provide the best possible conditions for the athletes.

As the event draws near, Neeraj Chopra, who is donning the organiser’s hat alongside his competitive role, took time out to meet with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to express gratitude for the state’s support. Speaking at a press conference hosted by the Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) and the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Chopra said:

“I would like to thank the Government of Karnataka, the KOA, and the DYES for playing such a key role in ensuring the stadium meets international standards. Their efforts have enabled us to provide world-class facilities for the athletes and an enriching experience for the fans.

A lot of hard work has gone into the revamp, and I’m especially grateful to Honourable Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sir, Dr K. Govindaraj sir, and all the officials involved. This will be a memorable event for all.”

With India’s sporting icon at the helm and Bengaluru embracing the global spotlight, the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 is poised to make history — not just in terms of results on the field but in fostering a sporting culture that resonates across generations.
