Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left today for his visit to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. Mr Modi will arrive in Ghana today on a two-day visit. In his departure statement, Mr Modi highlighted that Ghana is a valued partner in the Global South and plays an important role in the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States. He is looking forward to exchanges aimed at further deepening historical ties and opening up new windows of cooperation in the areas of investment, energy, health, security, capacity building and development partnership. The Prime Minister will also address the Parliament of Ghana.
Following this, Mr Modi will depart for a two-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow. He noted that India shares a deep-rooted historical, cultural, and people-to-people connection with the country. The Prime Minister Modi will meet the Trinidadian President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. He noted that this visit will provide an opportunity to rejuvenate the special bonds of ancestry and kinship that unite India and Trinidad and Tobago.The Prime Minister will then travel to Argentina, which will be the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years. Mr Modi highlighted that Argentina is a key economic partner for India in Latin America and a close collaborator in the G20. He will hold discussions with Argentine President Javier Mile, which will focus on advancing a mutually beneficial cooperation, including in the areas of agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment.
In Brazil, Mr Modi will attend the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro from the 6th to 7th of next month. He highlighted that as a founding member, India is committed to BRICS as a vital platform for cooperation among emerging economies. He added that together, they strive for a more peaceful, equitable, just, democratic and balanced multipolar world order. On the sidelines of the Summit, the Prime Minister will also meet several world leaders. He will travel to Brasilia for a bilateral State Visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly six decades. This visit will provide an opportunity to strengthen a close partnership with the nation and work with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on advancing the priorities of the Global South.
Finally, Prime Minister Modi will visit Namibia, where he will meet with Namibian President Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to chart a new roadmap for cooperation for the benefit of the people, the regions and the wider Global South. Mr Modi called Namibia a trusted partner with whom India shares a common history of struggle against colonialism. He will also address the Joint Session of the amphibious Parliament.Prime Minister expressed confidence that these visits will reinforce India’s bonds and friendship across the Global South. He added that these will strengthen partnerships on both sides of the Atlantic and deepen engagements in the multilateral platforms such as BRICS, the African Union, ECOWAS and the CARICOM.
