NEC Sanctions ₹14.22 Crore for Holistic Development Projects Across Tripura
In a major boost to Tripura’s development aspirations, the North Eastern Council (NEC) has sanctioned a total of Rs14,22,64,365 for the implementation of a wide array of development projects spanning across critical sectors. According to a press release issued by the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department, the allocated funds will be channelled into projects covering tourism, agriculture, industry, human resource development, transportation, science and technology, irrigation and water management, and the preservation of cultural heritage.

The press statement outlined several key initiatives that will be funded under this package, aiming to stimulate sustainable growth and livelihood opportunities in both rural and urban parts of the state.
Agricultural and Allied Sectors to Get a Major Push
A sizeable portion of the funding has been earmarked for projects related to agriculture and animal husbandry. To strengthen livestock production, Rs 10,71,451 has been allocated for the establishment of pig breeding farms in two locations — Hawai Bari under Teliamura Subdivision in Khowai district, and Jalepha in South Tripura district.
In addition, to support fisheries and enhance local fish production, Rs 1,00,37,400 has been sanctioned for the excavation of new ponds and the renovation of minor water bodies, a move expected to benefit fish farmers across the state.
Farmers are also set to benefit from the Rs 2 crore allocation for the establishment of six Integrated Seed Processing Plants, which will significantly improve seed quality and availability. Another ₹3 crore has been set aside for the development of infrastructure for two modern agricultural markets, ensuring better market access and improved prices for local producers.
Furthermore, Rs 80 lakh has been approved for the construction of an Integrated Pack House in Dhalai district to facilitate better post-harvest management and supply chain efficiency. To boost the poultry sector, Rs 1,51,03,874 will be used to set up brooder houses and poultry hatcheries.
Rural Development and Service Delivery Enhancements
The NEC has also prioritized rural development through its funding decisions. A key Identified Service Delivery Project in Ganganagar RD Block of Dhalai district has been allotted Rs 1,10,49,864, while Rs 1,54,43,543 has been allocated for the Raishyabari RD Block. These projects aim to enhance governance and public service delivery in remote areas of the state.
Focus on Education and Cultural Preservation
As part of the human resource development initiative, Rs 30 lakh has been earmarked for the construction of a new school building at Vivekananda Tripureswari Vidya Mandir, which will improve educational infrastructure and student learning conditions.
The NEC has also committed to preserving and promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage. Part of the funds will be utilized for organizing workshops on Geographical Indication (GI) products, showcasing indigenous crafts and innovations that are unique to the state.
Science, Research and Renewable Energy Initiatives
The press statement revealed that allocations have also been made for high-level academic and scientific activities. These include funding for an international conference on chemistry, a winter school on health economics, and the installation of solar-powered irrigation pumps in government-run orchid gardens—blending sustainable energy solutions with agricultural productivity.
NEC Reiterates Commitment to Timely Implementation
The NEC, which operates under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), has assured that all funds will be disbursed in a timely manner to avoid project delays and ensure smooth implementation on the ground. The council emphasized that the strategic interventions are part of its broader vision to achieve inclusive and balanced development in Tripura and the North Eastern Region at large.
The NEC has been instrumental over the years in shaping the socio-economic landscape of the Northeast. With a special focus on region-specific strengths and challenges, the council continues to support the states in building infrastructure, enhancing livelihoods, and preserving cultural identities.
The current financial push, officials say, reflects NEC’s continued dedication to the holistic and sustainable development of Tripura, empowering communities while addressing both economic and environmental concerns.
