BJP Comes Down Heavily on Rahul Gandhi Over Remarks on Operation Sindoor and Prime Minister Narendra Modi . The party objected to the language used by Gandhi against the Prime Minister while questioning him.
In a sharp political offensive, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of undermining the morale of India’s armed forces and providing political fodder to Pakistan. The confrontation comes in the wake of Gandhi’s persistent questioning over the alleged “losses” during Operation Sindoor, India’s precision military operation targeting terror infrastructure across the border, and the government’s “silence” on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he mediated between India and Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia defended the government’s position and rebuked the Congress leader for what he termed as “reckless and anti-national commentary.”
“Every Indian today is proud of our armed forces. They are being praised across the world for their courageous action in neutralising terrorists and giving a fitting reply to Pakistan. But Rahul Gandhi seems to have more trust in what is being said in Islamabad than in what is being acknowledged by India’s own military leadership,” Bhatia said.
Rahul Gandhi must cease undermining the valour and dedication of our brave armed forces. He should refrain from posing questions that jeopardise national security, especially during sensitive times.

The BJP spokesperson was responding to Rahul Gandhi’s latest post on social media platform X, where the Congress leader demanded a government response on Trump’s repeated assertion that his administration had helped “broker peace” between India and Pakistan. Gandhi also questioned the government’s silence over the reported losses during Operation Sindoor and the destruction of Indian jets — a claim dismissed by Indian defence officials.
“Why does Rahul Gandhi keep echoing Pakistani and foreign narratives? His repeated comments are not only misleading but are now being used in the Pakistani Parliament to attack India. It is deeply concerning that a former president of a national party is acting in a way that directly benefits India’s adversaries,” Bhatia charged.
Taking a personal jibe at the Congress MP, Bhatia said, “Rahul Gandhi must clarify — is he the Leader of the Opposition in India or the ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan’ of our enemy nation?”
The BJP also responded to comments from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who reportedly referred to Operation Sindoor as a “chutput yudh” (a minor war). Bhatia alleged that this belittling of India’s military operation reflected a pattern within the Congress party of downplaying national security successes.
“In the face of detailed briefings by the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) and the Indian Air Force leadership on May 11, Rahul Gandhi continues to question our forces. This isn’t skepticism, it’s sabotage. He is deliberately ignoring facts to lower the morale of our brave men and women in uniform,” Bhatia asserted.
Bhatia also cited a public statement by Mariam Nawaz, a senior leader of Pakistan’s ruling party, acknowledging the heavy losses suffered by Pakistan in the Indian strikes. “Mariam Nawaz has openly said that Pakistan suffered extensive losses on the nights of May 6 and 7, and again on May 9. She admitted that 11 airbases and nine terror hubs were destroyed. But even when Pakistan admits defeat, the Congress party refuses to accept victory,” he said.
Operation Sindoor was launched earlier this month in retaliation for a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, in which 26 Indian tourists were killed. The operation involved coordinated precision strikes by Indian forces on terror training camps and launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Indian military officials have confirmed the elimination of over 100 terrorists and the destruction of critical infrastructure used by groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Despite the widespread acclaim for the operation within India and support from many global capitals, the Congress party has continued to press the government on operational transparency, civilian casualties, and diplomatic consequences.
BJP leaders, however, maintain that such questions are not only politically motivated but harmful to India’s international image and internal unity.
“Opposition is a cornerstone of democracy,” Bhatia said. “But there’s a difference between healthy debate and habitual distrust. Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, echoed by Pakistan, make one wonder whose side he’s really on.”
As the war of words escalates, it is clear that Operation Sindoor has not only opened a new military front across the border but has also triggered a full-scale political battle at home.
