India exposed Pakistan’s duplicity after it violated a ceasefire Pakistan itself proposed. Following the deadly Pahalgam attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, eliminating 100 terrorists and striking key terror hubs.

India has exposed Pakistan’s double standards after it violated a ceasefire agreement that had been proposed by its own military leadership. The agreement was initiated to halt four days of intense hostilities across the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border, following the brutal April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists.

Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) for India, revealed that the proposal to pause hostilities came directly from Pakistan during a hotline conversation between the two DGMOs. Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, Lt Gen Ghai stated, “My communication with the Pak DGMO was conducted at 15:35 hours yesterday (Saturday) and resulted in cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions by either side with effect from 17:00 hrs, 10th of May, after he proposed that we cease hostilities.”

The understanding was bilateral and unconditional, reflecting India’s consistent effort to de-escalate tensions even after delivering heavy blows to terrorist infrastructure inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The next round of talks was scheduled for May 12 to discuss further modalities aimed at sustaining the ceasefire.

However, as Lt Gen Ghai noted, “Expectedly it took only a couple of hours for Pakistan Army to violate these arrangements by cross-border and across Line of Control firing followed by drone intrusions through last night and in the early hours of today.”

India responded strongly to these provocations. A formal protest was sent to Pakistan through the hotline channel, reaffirming India’s clear intent to respond fiercely to any future violations. “We have earlier today sent another hotline message to my counterpart highlighting these violations… and our firm and clear intent to respond to these fiercely if repeated,” Ghai said. He confirmed that the Indian Army Chief had granted full operational authority to field commanders for swift counteraction in case of further aggression.

The situation follows India’s major counter-terror operation codenamed Operation Sindoor, which began in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. During the same briefing, senior military officials revealed the extensive scope of this operation. Lt Gen Ghai, along with Vice Admiral AN Pramod and Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti, confirmed that India had neutralised 100 terrorists across nine key locations, including high-value operatives linked to the Kandahar hijacking and the Pulwama suicide bombing.

According to the officials, the May 7 offensive was carried out with precision, focusing exclusively on terrorist targets to avoid collateral damage. “The targets were only terrorists, that prevented collateral damage,” Lt Gen Ghai said. Despite the restraint shown by Indian forces, Pakistan attempted retaliatory drone and missile attacks on Indian military installations. However, all incoming threats were successfully intercepted and neutralised.

As part of its strategic deterrence, India launched punitive strikes on Pakistan’s military infrastructure, resulting in an estimated 35 to 40 Pakistani military casualties. While the Indian side lost five soldiers during the operation, officials confirmed that Pakistan’s forces did not breach Indian territory at any point. Air Marshal Bharti clarified, “Our aim remained fixed on neutralising identified terrorist operatives, not engaging in combat with Pakistan’s military.”

Additionally, the Indian Navy maintained heightened alertness in the Arabian Sea, forcing the Pakistani naval fleet to remain docked. Advanced surveillance and readiness drills ensured complete maritime and aerial situational awareness, with threats intercepted over regions including Jammu, Udhampur, Pathankot, Dalhousie, and Phalodi.

“Operation Sindoor” struck key Pakistani military and terror assets, including command centres and airbases in Chaklala, Rafiki, and Rahriyar Khan. Military leaders concluded with a stern warning: any future escalation will be met with decisive force. “The response will be fierce and punitive,” General Ghai asserted.

While India reiterates its commitment to peace, it has made it unequivocally clear that any goodwill will not be taken for granted. The Indian armed forces remain in a heightened state of vigilance to ensure the nation’s security and sovereignty.
