PM Modi held a high-level review of ‘Operation Sindoor’ with top military leaders amid Pakistan’s drone and missile attacks. The meeting addressed border ceasefire violations, infiltration attempts, and India’s strong countermeasures, including drone forensics and coordination with military veterans to assess future strategies and national security.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level strategic meeting on Friday with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs to assess the progress and future direction of ‘Operation Sindoor’. The meeting, held amid rising tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), also saw the participation of former Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
‘Operation Sindoor’ was launched in response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. In its aftermath, India initiated a focused military operation targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and across the LoC.
PM Modi’s review meeting came shortly after Pakistani forces launched a significant provocation on the nights of May 8 and 9. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, during a press briefing, revealed that approximately 300–400 drones were deployed by Pakistan across 36 locations along India’s western border. The aerial intrusion included advanced drones suspected to be Turkish-made, though forensic confirmation is pending.
The objective behind this large-scale intrusion, according to Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, appeared to be an effort to infiltrate Indian territory, test air defence systems, and gather sensitive intelligence. Despite the scale of the attack, India’s robust air defence network successfully repelled all drones and missile strikes, preventing any damage to military infrastructure.
On May 7 and 8, Pakistani forces further escalated tensions by violating Indian airspace multiple times and using heavy-calibre weapons along the LoC. “All their attempts were neutralised by kinetic and non-kinetic means,” Colonel Qureshi asserted.
The Indian Armed Forces’ proactive strategy and swift response reportedly left the Pakistani military confused and demoralised. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the targeted Indian cities remained unharmed and that forensic analysis of drone wreckage is underway.
The high-level meeting led by PM Modi aimed to solidify future military responses, ensure border security, and deepen coordination among current and former military leaders. This unprecedented joint consultation with veterans underscores the seriousness of the situation and India’s resolve to maintain territorial integrity.
As ‘Operation Sindoor’ continues, India remains vigilant against further violations, with a firm commitment to protecting its citizens and sovereignty.
