In his address at the event, the Chief Minister outlined the state government’s broader plans for the development of educational infrastructure. He revealed that in the financial year 2024-25, the government has constructed new buildings for 44 schools, with a total expenditure of Rs. 153 crore. Further expanding on the state’s future roadmap, Dr. Saha announced that new school buildings will be constructed for another 30 schools in the 2025-26 fiscal year, at an estimated cost of Rs. 264 crore. Additionally, 123 schools are set to be renovated in the same fiscal year.

Highlighting the shift from traditional to modern education systems, Dr. Saha emphasized the growing importance of technological literacy. “This is the age of Artificial Intelligence. Our education system must adapt to these changes, and our teachers need to stay updated with the latest tools and teaching methodologies,” he said.

In a key policy announcement, Dr. Saha informed the gathering that the government has undertaken an initiative to post teachers with English-medium educational backgrounds to government-run English-medium schools. This move is aimed at enhancing the quality of education in these institutions and ensuring that students receive instruction from teachers well-versed in English.

The Chief Minister also touched upon teacher recruitment, stating that alongside infrastructure development, the state government is prioritizing the recruitment of qualified teachers through the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). “The objective is to ensure proper implementation of all education-related plans. Without capable teachers, even the best infrastructure cannot yield the desired outcomes,” he noted.

Dr. Saha reiterated the state government’s commitment to inclusive education, aligning with the national vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that special attention is being given to ensuring that children from backward and underprivileged sections of society have access to quality education. “We are seeing positive results, as reflected in the significant reduction in school dropout rates across the state,” he added.

The inaugural event was attended by several dignitaries, including Minister for Transport and Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury, Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma, Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, along with senior officials from the education department and local administration.

With this comprehensive focus on both infrastructure and quality, the Tripura government aims to build a more robust and inclusive educational ecosystem, one that prepares students for the future while reducing disparities in access and outcomes.
