Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addresses PHDCCI’s 120th anniversary, emphasizing inclusive, innovation-driven growth for a developed India by 2047. He highlights industry-friendly reforms, tech-led progress, and women’s entrepreneurship as key pillars of India’s economic transformation.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today addressed the distinguished members of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) on the occasion of its 120th anniversary in New Delhi. He highlighted the crucial role that industry and commerce play in India’s journey towards becoming a fully developed nation by 2047.
Emphasizing the government’s vision for a ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, Birla urged all stakeholders to adopt a development model that is sustainable, inclusive, and forward-thinking. He stressed that this model must be deeply rooted in research, innovation, and enterprise to drive long-term progress. According to Birla, the current era in India is defined by economic empowerment and innovation, supported by development-oriented government policies that are injecting fresh momentum into the country’s industries.
Birla noted that India’s trade policies reflect the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and signify the country’s rising global stature. “India has now become a beacon for global investors,” he said, adding that the country is no longer aspiring for ease of doing business—it is delivering it. He also pointed out India’s impressive economic recovery post-pandemic as an inspiration for developing countries and a testament to the nation’s resilience.
He cited key flagship programs such as Make in India, Digital India, Gati Shakti, Bharatmala Pariyojana, Udaan Yojana, and the growth of electronic manufacturing clusters as building blocks of India’s robust industrial infrastructure. Birla praised policy reforms such as simplified industrial policies, a transparent tax regime, and the single-window clearance system as significant enablers of entrepreneurship.

“India is transforming from a consumer-driven economy to a cradle of innovation,” Birla declared. He celebrated the achievements of Indian start-ups, acknowledging their role in driving sustainable development and propelling India toward becoming a global superpower.
He also addressed the technological transformation currently sweeping the country. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, and innovation-led productivity, India is entering a new era of growth marked by transparency, efficiency, and economic inclusion. He particularly highlighted the surge in digital transactions, noting how they are bridging urban-rural divides and bringing remote areas into the economic mainstream.
Birla praised PHDCCI for serving as a vital link between policymakers and industry. He commended the chamber’s initiatives in women’s entrepreneurship, such as mentorship programs and development platforms that have empowered Indian women to become influential contributors to commerce and industry. “The leadership of women in India’s economic journey is no longer an exception; it’s the new rule,” he stated.
Concluding his address, Om Birla emphasized that institutions like PHDCCI are uniquely positioned to support the nation’s industrial ecosystem. Their insights and collaboration, he noted, are critical to crafting responsive and future-ready policies that will lead India into its centenary as a fully developed global leader.
