BSF seizes 43,800 Yaba tablets worth ₹4.5 crore along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura, thwarting a smuggling attempt. The operation reflects BSF’s ongoing efforts to combat cross-border drug trafficking and protect national security.

The Border Security Force (BSF) seized a massive consignment of narcotics valued at ₹4.5 crore along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Sepahijala district. The operation was carried out by troops of the Border Out Post (BOP) NC Nagar, who acted swiftly on specific intelligence inputs.

According to BSF officials, the alert troops noticed suspicious movement near the international border under their jurisdiction. Upon being challenged, the suspects—believed to be Indian smugglers—abandoned the consignment and fled, taking advantage of the difficult terrain and darkness.

A meticulous search of the area led to the discovery of 21 packets concealed near the border fence. These packets contained a total of 43,800 Yaba tablets, a potent and highly addictive methamphetamine-based drug commonly trafficked in Southeast Asia. The estimated market value of the seized tablets stands at approximately ₹4.38 crore.

In a related development on the same day, BSF troops also seized additional contraband items worth ₹3,68,604 from various other border locations in Tripura. These seizures reflect the heightened vigilance and relentless efforts by the BSF to crack down on illegal activities along the porous Indo-Bangladesh border.

Officials confirmed that the seized drugs and items have been handed over to the concerned law enforcement agencies for further investigation and legal proceedings.

This successful interception forms part of BSF’s intensified anti-smuggling campaign, aimed at curbing the flow of illegal substances across international borders. The force has been ramping up surveillance and deploying advanced technology to monitor border areas that are vulnerable to infiltration and smuggling.

Yaba, also known as the “crazy medicine,” poses a severe public health threat and is often trafficked from Myanmar through Bangladesh into northeastern India. Its growing presence in the region has prompted security agencies to increase cooperation and intelligence-sharing to dismantle trafficking networks.

The BSF reiterated its unwavering commitment to securing the nation’s frontiers and protecting citizens from the dangers posed by narcotics. With consistent crackdowns and increased border patrolling, the force continues to play a crucial role in India’s war against drugs.
