Dr Manik Saha after becoming the Chief Minister undertook a whirlwind tour in New Delhi on Wednesday meeting President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP president JP Nadda and several other senior party functionaries.

During his meeting with Union Ministers Dr Saha discussed with them government as well as organizational matters.

While meeting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi the Chief Minister requested him to sanction new projects for the state’s overall development.

While seeking his guidance Dr Saha discussed sanctioning new projects for health, railways, highways, airways and infrastructure sectors of the state.

“During the meeting I requested Hon’ble PM to sanction new projects in the health, railways, highways, airways & infrastructural segments for the overall development in Tripura,” the Chief Minister tweeted.

He also met President Ram Nath Kovind and three union ministers- Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and BJP national president J.P. Nadda in Delhi on Wednesday.

 During his meetings with the Union Ministers, Dr. Saha discussed several important matters including early completion of unfinished border fencing works, handing over of unused lands (earlier used by the BRO) to the state government and funds for infrastructure development. 

The Chief Minister requested Home Minister Amit Shah to take up with neighbouring Bangladesh for early completion of unfinished border fencing works along the border and completion of the Integrated Check Post at Nischintapur in West Tripura district.

 In his interaction with the Home Minister, Dr. Saha also requested for setting up a Sainik School in the state as well as discussed the Bru resettlement issue and requested him to solve the matter with a priority.

Later in a Facebook post, Dr. Saha mentioned the topics he discussed during the courtesy meeting with the Home Minister. 

“Today, I met Home Minister of India Shri Amit Shah ji. I have requested him for setting up an Army School in the state, establishing an Integrated Check Post at Nischintapur and to take up with Bangladesh for completion of the unfinished task of erecting fencing at the Indo-Bangla border.  Also discussed with importance the issue of rehabilitation of the Reang (Bru) refugees in the state” Dr. Saha wrote.

In his meeting with the Union Minister for Defence, Dr. Saha highlighted that after BRO’s departure from the state, 28.9 acres land at Lichubagan in West Tripura and 26.32 acres land at Panisagar in North Tripura were lying unused.

Dr. Saha requested the Defence Minister for handing over the unused lands to the Tripura government. 

He also met the Finance Minister and sought funds of Rs. 1200 crore for infrastructure development. He also requested the Finance Minister to consider the matter on providing assistance for signing of an agreement with the World Bank for financial growth in the blocks in ADC areas and service sector before December 2022. 

The Chief Minister also discussed primary approval for Tripura under the ELEMENT scheme and improvement of Landscape and Ecosystem Management of the state. 

He also sought assistance from the Ministry of Finance for speedy implementation of various projects in the identified sectors as per the strategic policy of the Asian Development Bank.

Later, a Facebook post from the Chief Minister said that the discussions with the Finance Minister were ‘fruitful’.

Earlier on the day, the Tripura Chief Minister along with his wife- Swapna Saha paid a courtesy visit to President of India Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

As part of his Delhi visit, the Chief Minister met some central party leaders to discuss the matters related to Tripura’s development.

On the other hand, Dr. Saha is also expected to discuss the appointment of new president for BJP Tripura during his meeting with BJP central leadership.

On the other hand, Dr. Saha, who is president of BJP Tripura unit, met BJP national president J.P. Nadda and briefed him about the organizational matters.
