The Election Commission of India on Wednesday has announced by polls on June 23 next in four assembly constituencies in Tripura. The elections to the 06- Agartala, 08- Bordowali, 46- Surma and 57- Jubarajnagar will be held with some other by polls across the country.
While Agartala and Bordowali constituencies need by elections due to resignation of the incumbent BJP MLAs Sudip Roy Barman and Asish Saha- both later joining the Congress, Surma seat has gone vacant as sitting BJP MLAs was expelled under the anti-defection law. Jubarajnagar constituency will go to by polls due to death of incumbent CPM MLA Ramendra Debnath, a former Speaker.
According to the ECI announcement while a notification for the by polls in Tripura will be issued on May 30 next, last date of nominations will be June 6. Scrutiny will be done on June 7 and last date for withdrawal will be June 9.
After the by poll on June 23 the counting will be conducted on June 26 and the entire election process will be completed by June 28.
The by elections will be conducted using EVMs VVPTs in all the polling stations.
The model code of conduct will come into force with immediate effect in the districts in which the whole or part of the assembly constituencies is included.
The by polls will be held as per the electoral rolls of the constituencies as on January 1, 2022.
Besides, Tripura by polls will also be held in Punjab, UP, Andhra Pradesh , NCT of Delhi and Jharkhand.
