Tripura Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath has defended himself against allegations of using the term ‘Jat’ in a derogatory manner, insisting that his words were misinterpreted. He clarified that the term was directed at his CPIM party, not at opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury.
Addressing a press conference, Nath accused Choudhury of misleading tribal communities by filing a privilege motion against him in the Tripura Legislative Assembly. Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee of the Indigenous Haokip Community has written to the President and Governor, demanding Nath’s removal.
The controversy intensified as Nath filed a ‘Breach of Privilege’ motion against local newspaper “Daily Desher Katha,” accusing it of publishing a misleading report. He claimed the newspaper distorted his remarks to give them a communal angle, tarnishing his reputation and Assembly proceedings.
As political tensions rise, opposition leaders continue to demand Nath’s resignation, further escalating the dispute.
