Defying weak global cues, the Sensex jumped 1,718 points to close at 81,028. The Nifty climbed 494 points to settle at 25,030. Conversely, the broader market on the National Stock Exchange underperformed the frontline indices. The Midcap 100 index ended almost flat with a negative bias, while the Smallcap 100 index dropped over 0.8%.
