The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said that several measures have been taken by the government, such as incentivising domestic production to ensure the availability and affordability of essential food commodities.

The ministry informed that the production of pulses and onions in this financial year is estimated to increase compared to the last financial year. It said that the production is estimated to be over 35 lakh metric tonnes, which is 2.5 percent higher than last year’s production of 34 lakh metric tonnes.

Moong production is estimated to be 13.83 lakh metric tonnes compared to the previous year’s production of 11.54 lakh metric tonnes. The Ministry said that Kharif onion production has been estimated to be good due to higher sowing.

Similarly, the Rabi onion sowing has been progressing well. The sowing of potatoes has been reported to be progressing well due to favourable climatic conditions.
