Child Rights panel to set up Child Rights Clubs in schools

Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TCPCR) soon in collaboration with the School Education department will introduce Child Rights Club’ in schools across the state.

The initiative has been planned to create awareness among the children in schools about the child abuse, child labour or child marriage like social evils.

Chairperson of the TCRCR Nilima Ghosh in a press conference said, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath has already been consulted on the matter and he has agreed to the proposal.

The Chairperson believes that once the Child Right Clubs are set up in schools, and regular discussions on the issues are discussed among the students and their teachers, it will immensely help create an awareness about them and the students on their own will be able to claim their rights.

Apart from that, the Child Rights Clubs will also another important role : In case of any child marriage, child abuse and Child labour occur in the area, the Child Rights Club of the School of that area will inform the TCPCR about it and the TCPCR will take an action if the instances come under its jurisdiction.

Ghosh said, if everything goes as planned then soon after the ongoing examinations are over, the clubs will come up in the schools.

Besides, the Child Right Clubs, the TCPCR is also contemplating some effective actions relating to the weight of the school bags ogf the small children. She also referred to the Supreme Court ruling on school bag weight in this regard and said some steps will soon be taken in private and government run schools of the state.

Among others Press Club Secretary Pranab Sarkar was also present in the press conference.
