Installing rooftop solar panels under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana can significantly reduce electricity expenses while fostering environmental conservation, said Tripura’s Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Speaking at an awareness and registration camp held at Bidyut Bhavan in Agartala, Nath highlighted the benefits of the central government initiative, which promotes solar energy adoption by offering subsidies to households. The event was organized by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) to educate residents about the scheme and facilitate on-the-spot registrations.

“The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana is transformative. It not only reduces electricity costs for households but also aligns with the government’s vision of renewable energy adoption for environmental sustainability,” said Nath.

He added that the program aims to minimize reliance on conventional energy sources while contributing to the global fight against climate change. Banks have also partnered to provide loans at subsidized rates, making solar panel installation more accessible.

The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring sustainable and affordable energy for all. “Renewable energy is the future, and schemes like these pave the way for a greener and more self-reliant society,” he said.

Nath announced that similar camps would be conducted across the state’s districts and subdivisions to ensure more people benefit from the scheme.

The initiative is expected to bolster the state’s renewable energy capacity while empowering residents with sustainable energy solutions.
