Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has voiced serious concerns over what he described as the alarming resurgence of militant activities in the northeastern state of Tripura. Sarkar, a senior leader of the Left Front and known for his sharp critiques of governance, made these remarks while addressing the media at a blood donation camp held at Daily Desher Katha Bhavan on Saturday.

Sarkar emphasized the critical need for the current state government to remain vigilant and well-informed about the security situation. Drawing attention to the increasing reports of militant infiltration, he raised pertinent questions regarding the origin and operations of these groups. “Are these militants coming from outside the state? If so, where are they operating from? The government must have detailed intelligence on these matters. If they lack this information, it is a glaring weakness in their security apparatus,” he remarked.

The former chief minister reflected on the measures taken during the Left Front’s administration, underscoring the proactive stance his government adopted to curb militancy. “We placed a strong emphasis on intelligence gathering and coordination. The government worked closely with paramilitary forces and the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) to secure the borders and monitor militant movements. This approach was instrumental in ensuring peace and stability in Tripura,” Sarkar stated.

He warned that any complacency or lack of preparedness could have grave consequences for the state’s safety and security. Sarkar urged the incumbent government to act decisively to address the situation, adding that the safety of Tripura’s residents must remain a top priority.. Political analysts note that Sarkar’s remarks come at a time when concerns about cross-border militancy are growing, especially given Tripura’s strategic location near international borders.

Sarkar’s call for vigilance and accountability has added pressure on the government to address these pressing security challenges with urgency and transparency.

The issue has now taken center stage in the political discourse of Tripura, with many looking to the government for immediate and concrete steps to counter the resurgence of militancy and protect the state’s hard-earned peace.
