Ottawa/IBNS: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeaus resignation as the Liberal leader has been demanded by a meaty number of his own MPs as the politician is facing setbacks in his own backyard.

As per local news reports, dissenting Liberal MPs held a closed-door meeting communicating with each other about the grievances against Trudeau.

The dissenting MPs have set October 28 as a deadline for Trudeau to take a call on his future as the Liberal leader.

At a caucus meeting, a document was furnished outlining the case for Trudeaus stepping down, reports said.

An agreement demanding Trudeaus resignation was signed by 24 Liberal MPs.

However, it is not clear what would the disgruntled MPs do if Trudeau snubs the deadline.

Immigration Minister Marc Miller accepted the frustrations of the 20-odd MPs and said as quoted by NDTV, Fundamentally, this is something that has been simmering for some time and its important for people to get it out. This isnt a code red situation. The prime minister can sure as hell handle the truth.

The political rift, as some reports claim, has been triggered by the deteriorating relationship between Canada and India over the Nijjar row.

Trudeau accused Indian officials of having a role in the killing of Khalistani terrorist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar without producing any proof.

India responded sharply after Canada called the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats persons of interest in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
