Modi conferred with Russia’s Highest Civilian Award

Must Read

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored with Russia’s highest civilian award, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called, during a brief but significant ceremony at the Grand Kremlin Palace. The award was presented by Russian President Vladimir Putin following bilateral talks between the two leaders. The Kremlin stated that PM Modi was bestowed with this prestigious award in recognition of his outstanding services in developing the special privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India and fostering friendly ties between the Russian and Indian people.

In his acceptance speech, PM Modi expressed his deep gratitude for the honor, stating, “Honoured to receive the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. I dedicate it to the people of India.” This dedication highlights the strong bond and mutual respect between the two nations.

The Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called is awarded to prominent government and public figures, military leaders, and outstanding representatives in various fields such as science, culture, art, and the economy. The award recognizes exceptional services that contribute to the prosperity, greatness, and glory of Russia, ensuring its national security and sovereignty. It is also extended to heads and leaders of foreign governments for their significant contributions to developing relations with Moscow.

This prestigious award was established by Tsar Peter I around 1699, making it the oldest Russian state award. Although it was abolished in 1918, it was restored in 1998 by a decree from the President of Russia. The Order of St. Andrew the First-Called includes a badge, a star, an order chain, and an order ribbon made of silk, moire, and blue. Those awarded for distinction in combat are presented with the badge and star of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called with swords.

The ceremony underscored the deepening ties between India and Russia, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to furthering their strategic partnership. The award serves as a testament to the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations, highlighting the significant role PM Modi has played in strengthening these bonds.
