The West Tripura district committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has raised concerns over job scarcity and inadequate essential services in the district, urging immediate intervention from District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar.

Led by district committee secretary Ratan Das, a delegation including Pranab Debbarma and Narayan Deb met with Dr. Kumar on Saturday, presenting a 10-point charter of demands.

The CPI(M) delegation highlighted the acute crisis faced by job card holders under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the Tripura Urban Employment Programme (TUEP).

Ratan Das emphasized the dire situation faced by job card holders, who are struggling due to insufficient employment opportunities. The rising prices of essential commodities have further compounded their hardships. Additionally, the committee cited issues of widespread unemployment, scarcity of drinking water, and irregular power supply in several areas of the district.

The 10-point charter of demands includes calls for:

  1. Ensuring adequate work under MGNREGA and TUEP.
  2. Creating employment opportunities for unemployed youth.
  3. Providing free food items to poverty-stricken families.
  4. Supplying purified drinking water to rural and tribal areas.
  5. Compensating farmers affected by natural calamities.
  6. Ensuring a regular and reliable power supply.
  7. Repairing roads and drains in the Mohanpur, Jirania, Dukli, and Sadar subdivisions.

Das stressed the need for immediate action to alleviate the distress faced by residents, particularly those in rural and tribal communities. He urged the District Magistrate to take swift measures to address these pressing issues and ensure a better quality of life for the people of West Tripura.
