In Telangana, people are celebrating Ugaadi, the New Year-day for Telugu-speaking people, with traditional fervour and gaiety today. The festival is being celebrated across the two Telugu states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to mark the beginning of the Hindu Lunar calendar.

People thronged temples to offer special prayers on Ugadi day while several temples organised recitations of Panchangam to mark the festival.

Air Correspondent reports that the political leaders are making the best use of the occasion to interact with the people as the state is going for Lok Sabha polls next month. People across Telangana, both in rural and urban areas are celebrating the Krodhi Nama Ugadi of the Telugu Calendar, colourfully as they decorate the entrance of their houses with Mango and Neem leaves along with Jasmine and marigold flowers.

People savour special Ugadi chutney today comprising Neem flower, jaggery, salt, sugar cane, tamarind and mango to indicate six basic tastes and listen to Panchangam, the forecast of the New Year as it is an ancient practice on the occasion. The political parties and leaders are making the best use of the occasion to interact with people. Some of the leaders arranged breakfast meetings while others joined them in community festivities to garner their support.
