The Leader of Opposition and TIPRA Motha MLA, Animesh Debbarma, expressed gratitude towards the government’s decision to permit tribal students to write Kokborok language exams in the Roman script.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Debbarma emphasized the necessity of amending the TBSE guidelines, advocating for both Roman and Bengali scripts in Kokborok language examinations across Tripura.

Debbarma underscored that this amendment would greatly benefit the upcoming generation and urged the government to ensure question papers in both scripts.

Furthermore, he urged for the publication of Kokborok books in both Bengali and Roman scripts, catering to Kokborok-speaking students’ needs. Additionally, he called for Kokborok to be made a compulsory subject for students across communities, citing enhanced communication as a key benefit.

During discussions with Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman in Delhi, Debbarma revealed that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had expressed interest in allowing the use of the Roman script for Kokborok exams.

Debbarma also disclosed ongoing talks in Delhi regarding the ‘Greater Tipraland’ demand, indicating a positive outlook. Asserting their commitment to the cause, he emphasized that the dialogue with the central government was ongoing without compromising on their demands.
