
As the political situation in neighbouring Bangladesh before the ensuing general elections is increasingly turning volatile with widespread violence and as there is serious growth of drugs smuggling and ganja plantations in the border areas, Director General BSF, Nitin Agrawal came to Tripura on a two-day visit.
He is accompanied by BSF ADG (Eastern Command) Sonali Mishra.
Whenever the neighbouring country faces internal turmoil, political or otherwise, Tripura being surrounded by it in three sides feels the heat—with increased illegal sneak ins and other related border crimes. This time the BNP and other oppositions are resorting to massive violence and Awami League government seeks to combat them with strong hand there is also resultant snowballing effect. Quite expectedly, the need of heightened border surveillance, a review of the border management, security and operational preparedness of Tripura Frontier with 856 borderline along Bangladesh by the highest level of the border guards have also been also felt.
The DG BSF landed at the Airbase Agartala in the afternoon on Wednesday and was received by Ram Kripal Singh, DIG (PSO), Officiating IG of the BSF Tripura Frontier. The DGl was given the guard of honour at the force’s Officers’ institute at Salbagan. A Prahari Sammelan followed by Investiture ceremony for PMMS Awardees was also organised at Mitrica Hall at Frontier HQ.
DG BSF took stock of current security situation and operational preparedness along the Indo Bangladesh border. The Officiating IG briefed him about various aspects of the functioning of Tripura Frontier.
“Addressing troops in Prahari Sammelan Agrawal briefed on present security scenario and motivated his troops to tackle the frequently changing situation”, said an official statement of the border guards.
The chief of the force also stressed on personal health and proper training of troops to ensure the battle preparedness of the force
He applauded the tireless efforts and dedication in safeguarding of the borders and efforts made by BSF Tripura frontier to prevent trans-border crime effectively on the Indo-Bangladesh border. He also emphasised on to curbing the menace of drugs that had beset not only Tripura but also entire North East.
