Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated Supra Multi-Speciality Hospital in Agartala, highlighting improved healthcare infrastructure, advanced treatment facilities, reduced patient referrals, and stronger public-private healthcare cooperation for better medical services across the state.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday inaugurated the Supra Multi-Speciality Hospital near the old Motor Stand in Agartala, describing the new healthcare facility as an important addition to the state’s expanding medical infrastructure. He said the hospital would provide people with greater access to advanced and quality multi-speciality healthcare services within Tripura.
Speaking at the inauguration programme, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said the state government is committed to strengthening public healthcare while recognising the important contribution of private hospitals in expanding healthcare facilities. He expressed confidence that the new multi-speciality hospital would further increase opportunities for residents to access advanced medical treatment within the state.
The Chief Minister said the government has been implementing several developmental programmes with a focus on the welfare and development of people from all sections of society. He emphasised that the government is working for public welfare above political considerations and is moving forward by taking into account the faith and confidence of citizens.
According to Dr. Saha, Tripura’s healthcare sector has witnessed significant improvement over the past few years following the implementation of several infrastructure and service-related initiatives. Facilities such as digital healthcare services, telemedicine, trauma care and transplantation services have expanded, providing patients with improved access to specialised medical assistance.
He highlighted the expansion of bed capacity at GBP Hospital, which has now reached 1,413 beds. The government has also increased the intake capacity of hospitals in Agartala and strengthened healthcare infrastructure in district hospitals. These improvements, he said, have contributed to reducing the number of patients being referred outside the state for treatment.
The Chief Minister urged people to maintain confidence in healthcare facilities available within Tripura. He said that with the availability of increasingly advanced treatment options in the state, efforts should continue to reduce the need for patients to travel outside Tripura for medical care.
Dr. Saha also announced that a 100-bed eye hospital will be established in the state as part of efforts to further expand specialised healthcare infrastructure. Alongside hospital-based services, the government has also taken initiatives aimed at supporting patients and their families.
He said Bharat Mata Canteens are being introduced to provide support to people accompanying patients, particularly those who travel from remote areas for treatment. Such initiatives, he noted, are intended to make the healthcare system more accessible and supportive for patients and their attendants.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the progress made under major healthcare schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana. He said these programmes have achieved significant success in extending healthcare benefits to eligible people.
Under the Mukhyamantri Niramay Arogya Yojana, screening for various diseases is also being carried out, strengthening preventive healthcare efforts across the state. The government has additionally taken steps towards establishing a medical college and hospital in the TTAADC area, which is expected to improve access to higher-level medical education and healthcare services in the region.
Dr. Saha also pointed to Tripura’s achievements in child and adolescent vaccination. The state has recorded 100 per cent success under the Mukhyamantri Sustha Shoishab Sustha Koishore Abhiyan, reflecting the government’s focus on preventive healthcare and the well-being of younger generations.
The Chief Minister said the expansion of healthcare infrastructure, combined with improved medical services and cooperation between the government and private healthcare sector, can help create a stronger healthcare ecosystem in Tripura. The inauguration of Supra Multi-Speciality Hospital, he said, represents another step towards providing residents with quality treatment facilities closer to home.

The inauguration programme was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder and other dignitaries. Architect of Supra Multi-Speciality Hospital Suresh Chandra Debnath delivered the welcome address, while Dr. Rajib Debnath, Managing Director of the hospital, delivered the vote of thanks.
As part of the inauguration programme, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha also attended and inaugurated a mega blood donation camp organised at the hospital premises. The camp added a public-service dimension to the hospital’s inauguration and underlined the importance of community participation in strengthening healthcare services.

The opening of Supra Multi-Speciality Hospital is expected to further broaden the availability of specialised medical services in Agartala and contribute to the state government’s continuing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and reduce dependence on treatment outside Tripura.
