Highlighting the success of different projects of the Labour Department in the press conference, Secretary said that Labour Department is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana for the welfare of the unorganized workers of the state. In this scheme, unorganized workers in any field between 18 to 40 years of age can register and can paybetween rupees 50 -200 per month. The central government also pays the same amount to the workers. In this scheme, workers get a pension of Rs 3,000 per month when they reach 60 years of age. So far 31 thousand 364 beneficiaries have registered in this scheme in the state. Labour Department is organizing awareness programmes at the village level to bring more workers under the scheme.
Secretary of the Labour Department said that Labour Department has implemented the Unorganized Workers Assistance Scheme to provide social security to unorganized workers. So far 11 thousand 694 workers of the state have registered in this scheme. He said that the department is also working seriously on rescuing child laborers employed in different factories or other institutions. For this purpose labour inspectors regularly visit factories and other establishments. He said that inspectors of the Labor Department have rescued 11 child laborers during raids in the state in the last two financial years. Secretary of the Labour Department said with the aim of providing quality services to the entrepreneurs, Labour Department has added license, registration and other matters online on the SWAAGAT portal. So far, a total of 1,366 applications have been submitted on the SWAAGAT portal for different services.
Secretary of the Labour Department said that 8 projects are being provided for the welfare of the construction workers of the state through the Tripura Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board under the Labour Department. These include marriage assistance, maternity benefits, financial assistance for education, financial assistance for medical treatment, medical benefits due to accidents, death, cremation, pension and different other benefits are being provided through construction workers welfare scheme.
In the press conference, secretary of the labour department said that a total of 22 thousand 108 beneficiaries have received financial assistance of 8 crore 62 lakh rupees under the said scheme during the financial year 2021-22. Moreover, Secretary said in the press conference that Labour Department enforces various laws for the welfare of the workers. He said that 40,000 construction workers registered through the Tripura Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board have been given a one-time financial assistance of 3,000 rupees during the Covid pandemic. The total expenditure was 12 crores. Also skill development training is provided to construction workers through the board. So far a total of 915 registered construction workers have been imparted skill development training. Secretary said that the state government has launched the state insurance scheme to provide social security to the workers of the state. So far a total of 16,244 workers have enrolled in this scheme in the state. He said that medical services are being provided through the Employees State Insurance (ESI) dispensary at Shyamali bazar in order to provide first aid to the workers. Apart from this, 4 new ESI dispensaries have been launched in Udaipur, Bishramganj, Ambassa and Dharmanagar during the financial year 2021-22. Besides, a proposal has been sent to the central government to set up a 100-bed ESI hospital in Agartala.
Chief Inspector Engineer of Factories and Boilers Suryapal Majumder said in a press conference that Factories and Boilers work for the safety and health of workers. 71 awareness campaigns have been organized from April-August this year to make the workers of all the factories of the state aware of different issues. 26 boilers were inspected. Labour Commissioner, Dr. Naresh Babu N was also present at the press conference.
