In a sudden development Trinamool Congress high command axed its Tripura unit president Subal Bhowmik on Wednesday.
An official statement of the Trinamool Congress said, Bhowmik was relieved from his duties as the state president of the party with immediate effect.
It said all other members of the state committee , state youth committee, state Mahila Committeee , state SC cell and state ST cell would continue as in their position.
Rajib Bannerjee state in charge and Sushmita Dev, MP will now look after the Trinamool Congress’ Tripura affairs.
The development may look like to have been a shell dropped from the blue but there were talks that incumbent president of Trinamool Congress Subal Bhowmik was seriously disappointed after the drubbing the party got in the last by-polls that shattered tits dream of making a difference in the state politics and that Bhowmik in utter despair and frustration was planning to siwtch over to another party –for the sixth time in a row.
By all intents and purposes the Trinamool Congress began with a bang and ended with a whimper—and along with it took down political career of many in the state. The situation worsened further with the recent developments in West Bengal where one after another TMC leaders were being hounded and picked up for rampant corruption by the central agencies with clear convincing proofs. As the situation stands the Trinamool Congress does not envisage a very bright future even in West Bengal now and the national footprint for the party was a long gone conclusion.
Bhowmik who despite his organizational capacity had always been known to be impatient and always eyeing for the top post failed to make it in Congress, BJP and even in his own party- that he had once floated.
Now, after the Trinamool Congress dream being shattered in Tripura for good Bhowmik was reported to have been trying to re-join the BJP with his followers again. The report accordingly went up to Mamata Bannerjee and she decided to get Bhowmik removed from the position of the Trinamool Congress state president forthwith thus avoiding the president leaving the party and joining the BJP. It may be mentioned here that only few weeks ago Baptu Chakrabarty , General secretary of the TMC left Trinamool Congress and joined Congress with many followers.
From the beginning Trinamool Congress tried to sail on the strength of visiting West Bengal leaders-who were wholly ignorant about the inherent dynamics of the state politics and the party depended on I-Pac reports whose survey reports were in all intents and purposes a complete farce and were no where near the ground reality. While only Sushmita Dev could make some impression among the people of the state the visiting stars and some tainted leaders from the West Bengal TMC only discredited and eroded whatever its prospects were in Tripura.
While the slogan Tripura Didi-kei Chay became a matter of joke, the career of many politicians and writers in the state who joined the TMC with high hope also destroyed beyond recovery in near future. The biggest casualty is of course Subal Bhowmik.
