Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said this in a review meeting on Jal Jeevan Mission with senior officials of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department at Pragya Bhavan yesterday. Secretary of the department Abhishek Singh, Chief Engineer Shyamlal Bhowmik, Director Rajib Majumder along with supervisors, executive and assistant engineers of different circles and divisions and officials of TSECL were present in the meeting. In the meeting, comprehensive information about the progress of the department’s work was presented through PowerPoint.
In the meeting, the Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation Department said that the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department should work in a mission mode to deliver purified drinking water to every house in the state under Jal Jeevan Mission. Everyone should remember that drinking water connection should be delivered to almost all the houses by the month of December. The minister directed all concerned in the meeting to complete the tender process of the work quickly. It may be noted that out of 7 lakh 41 thousand 945 houses in the state, 4 lakh 6 thousand 875 houses have been provided drinking water. About 55 percent of the houses have already been connected with potable water. Since the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission, 616 deep tube wells, 2,723 small bore deep tube wells, 61 innovative water supply schemes, 3 surface water treatment plants and 68 iron removal plants have been installed. 3,571 schools and 5,009 Anganwadi centres in the state have been provided tap water connections. Also drinking water has been provided through tap to every house in 47 villages.
