The 12th International Day of Yoga 2026 will be observed worldwide under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” In Agartala, the West District Yoga Association and Red Cross Society organized a rally promoting yoga’s role in healthy ageing, preventive healthcare, mental well-being, longevity, mobility, and lifestyle disease management.

The 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 will be observed across the globe on Sunday with the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” emphasizing the growing importance of yoga in promoting longevity, mobility, mental wellness, and preventive healthcare in an increasingly ageing world.

Ahead of the global celebration, the West District Yoga Association, in collaboration with the Red Cross Society, organized a vibrant awareness rally in Agartala on Saturday. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from yoga practitioners, students, health enthusiasts, and members of the public, all joining hands to spread awareness about the benefits of yoga and healthy living.

The rally commenced from in front of the TB Association Hall and passed through several important areas of the city before concluding at the historic Ujjayanta Palace. Participants carried banners, placards, and messages advocating regular yoga practice, while slogans promoting health, fitness, and well-being echoed throughout the procession.

Organizers said the objective of the rally was to encourage people to adopt yoga as a daily habit rather than limiting its practice to a single commemorative day. Senior yoga trainers and instructors interacting with reporters stressed that yoga plays a significant role in maintaining physical fitness, improving mental health, and preventing lifestyle-related diseases.

They highlighted that regular yoga practice can help individuals manage stress, improve flexibility, strengthen immunity, and reduce the risk of metabolic disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. According to trainers, yoga is especially beneficial for older adults as it enhances balance, mobility, and overall quality of life, making it an effective tool for healthy ageing.

The International Day of Yoga 2026 will see large-scale participation across India and around the world. The national-level celebration is scheduled to take place at Kolkata’s iconic Red Road, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lead the main event. Thousands of yoga enthusiasts are anticipated to participate in the mass yoga demonstration.

In addition, the Ministry of Culture has announced special yoga programmes at 100 iconic locations across the country. These events aim to combine India’s rich cultural heritage with its ancient yoga traditions, showcasing the country’s commitment to promoting holistic health and wellness.

Speakers at the Agartala rally also referred to initiatives such as the “21 Days/21 Minutes Challenge” launched by MY Bharat, which encourages citizens to dedicate at least 21 minutes daily to yoga practice in the lead-up to International Yoga Day.
