Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), in collaboration with the Government of Mizoram and Clean & Green Revolution Mizoram, conducted a tree plantation, beautification and cleanliness drive at Sairang Railway Station. The initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability, enhance passenger amenities, strengthen green cover and create a cleaner, greener railway environment.
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of Mizoram, and Clean & Green Revolution Mizoram, recently organized a large-scale tree plantation, beautification and cleanliness drive at Sairang Railway Station.
The initiative reflects the collective commitment of all stakeholders to create cleaner, greener and more passenger-friendly railway stations while contributing to environmental conservation and sustainable development. The programme also highlighted the importance of community participation in preserving the environment and enhancing public infrastructure.
As part of the campaign, extensive tree plantation activities were undertaken within and around the railway station premises. In addition, flower garden development and a comprehensive cleanliness drive were carried out to improve the station’s overall appearance and ecological value. These efforts are expected to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the station while creating a healthier and more pleasant environment for passengers, railway employees and local residents.
The Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of Mizoram, played a crucial role in supporting the initiative by providing 50 April tree saplings and 50 Chawnpui tree saplings for plantation. The newly planted saplings are expected to strengthen the green cover around the station, improve air quality, support biodiversity and contribute to long-term environmental sustainability in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of Clean & Green Revolution Mizoram, Mrs. Lalmalsawmi, emphasized the organization’s vision of transforming Sairang Railway Station into one of the cleanest, greenest and most beautiful railway stations in India. She appreciated the active support extended by Northeast Frontier Railway and the Government of Mizoram in implementing beautification measures that will further improve the station environment and provide a welcoming experience for passengers and visitors.
The programme witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests and officials. Among them were Shri Agni Mitra, Conservator (Planning), Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of Mizoram, Pu JK Dawngzuala, Chairman of Zo Highways and Agriculture Development Company Limited, along with senior officials from the Lumding Division of Northeast Frontier Railway.
During the event, the dignitaries praised the initiative and stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between government agencies, local organizations and communities in advancing environmental conservation and sustainable development goals. They highlighted that such programmes not only improve public spaces but also create greater awareness about environmental responsibility among citizens.
The campaign also received enthusiastic participation from members of the Self-Help Group of Sihhmui, the Commercial Vehicle Union of Sairang, local residents and railway officials. Their active involvement demonstrated a strong sense of collective responsibility towards environmental stewardship, community welfare and the maintenance of public infrastructure.
