CPM is ready for a united platform by the Left, secular, democratic forces in Tripura to fight it out against the BJP. What the state CPM leaders including politburo member Manik Sarkar and state unit secretary Jitendra Choudhury were saying for the last few months, partry’s general secretary Sitaram Yechury a on Wednesday here at Agartala gave the final go ahead in a seminar.
“The idea is to counter the BJP’s Hindutwa based nationalism and RSS backed politics”, he maintained and said “Communist party would unite with all secular forces to protect the democratic values and constitutional rights of the people’ which, according to him under the attack in Tripura.
Addressing a symposium Yechury alleged that the BJP governments at the Centre and in the states the BJP rules, including Tripura, were making a fascist attack on democratic rights of the opposition parties.
“ For the last 70 years there has been an attempt to turn the secular democratic republic into a fascist Hindutwa raj . It only intensified after the Modi-government came to power in 2014. The idea was floated by the RSS. It is a fascist concept”, Yechury said.
He m,aintained that only by strengthening the diversity , and not by adopting imposing uniformity that the secular, democratic republic of India can be protected.
Yechury claimed that it was the CPI-M ( Then CPI) was the first political movement in the country to demand complete independence for India. This reference was not there in the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, he rued.
According to the CPM leader even the British considered the Left parties as their biggest enemy when freedom struggle was going on.
Politburo member Manik Sarkar in his speech alleged that BJP looted votes during the past elections held in Tripura.
“We are committed to play the role in organizing protests and raising people’s voice against the misrule of the BJP”, he said, CPI-M state Secretary and Central Committee member Jitendra Choudhury, party leader Aghore Debbarma among others also spoke on the occasion.
