The Mid-Term Review (MTR) Mission of the World Bank for the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) commenced on Monday with a high-level review meeting held at Hall Pragya Bhavan in Agartala. The mission marks an important milestone in assessing the progress, achievements, and future direction of the flagship development initiative aimed at enhancing livelihoods and public service delivery in tribal and rural areas of Tripura.
The review meeting brought together senior officials from the Government of Tripura, representatives of the World Bank, programme managers, and members of various Project Implementation Units (PIUs). Among those present were Dr. K. Sashikumar, Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department; Subhasis Das, Director; World Bank Task Team Leader Priti Kumar; and members of the World Bank mission representing critical sectors such as livelihoods, roads, buildings, education, and finance.
Senior officials from seven line departments and representatives of support agencies also participated in the discussions, reflecting a coordinated effort to evaluate the project’s implementation and identify strategies for achieving its long-term objectives.
During the meeting, Gajendra Verma, Chief Operating Officer of TRESP, delivered a detailed presentation outlining the project’s achievements and progress across multiple sectors. The presentation highlighted significant advancements in strengthening rural livelihoods, improving access to essential services, and promoting inclusive economic development in tribal-dominated regions of the state.
Officials reviewed progress made under various project components, including infrastructure development, livelihood enhancement initiatives, education support systems, and service delivery mechanisms. The project has been designed to create sustainable economic opportunities while improving the quality of life for rural and tribal communities.
An interactive session formed a key part of the review process, during which World Bank Task Team Leader Priti Kumar engaged with officials from the Public Works Department, Fisheries Department, Agriculture Department, and Animal Resources Development Department. Discussions focused on implementation status, operational experiences, challenges encountered in the field, and opportunities to strengthen project outcomes.
Departmental representatives shared valuable insights into ongoing activities and innovative approaches being adopted to address implementation challenges. The exchange of experiences provided an opportunity for stakeholders to identify best practices and areas requiring additional support or intervention.
The meeting underscored the strong partnership between the Government of Tripura and the World Bank in advancing rural development and economic growth. Participants emphasized the importance of effective coordination, strategic planning, and timely decision-making to ensure the successful completion of project milestones and the achievement of development targets.
Over the next few days, the World Bank Mission will conduct detailed review meetings and field visits across various districts, blocks, and villages in Tripura. These visits will enable mission members to assess ground-level implementation, interact directly with beneficiaries and stakeholders, and evaluate the impact of project interventions.
The findings and recommendations emerging from the Mid-Term Review Mission are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening project execution and maximizing the benefits of TRESP for rural communities. The review is also anticipated to provide a roadmap for enhancing service delivery systems and accelerating inclusive economic growth across tribal areas of Tripura.
