West Tripura Zilla Parishad launches a major initiative to install advanced water purifiers in 13 schools across multiple blocks, ensuring safe drinking water for students. The project aims to improve educational infrastructure and promote student health through reliable purified water access.
the West Tripura Zilla Parishad has announced a major initiative to install advanced water purifier machines in 13 schools across the district. The project, scheduled for implementation during the current financial year, is expected to greatly improve the availability of safe and clean drinking water for thousands of students.
The initiative has been planned under the Fifteenth Finance Commission’s tied fund, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 19.95 lakh. According to officials, the installation of these purifiers is part of the Parishad’s broader effort to provide essential facilities in government and government-aided schools, and to create a healthier learning environment for children.
Purifiers to Provide Hot, Cold, and Normal Water
The new machines to be installed are designed to deliver cold, hot, and normal purified water simultaneously, offering a modern and convenient hydration solution for students and teaching staff. This feature is particularly beneficial in Tripura’s climate, where students often struggle with clean drinking water in both summer and winter seasons.
Officials stated that the introduction of multifunctional purifiers will not only ensure safe drinking water but also help reduce water-borne diseases, improve hygiene, and promote better attendance among students. Many rural schools in the region currently rely on basic or outdated water purification systems, making this initiative a timely and necessary upgrade.
Schools Identified Across Five Blocks
The 13 schools selected for this phase of installation are spread across Dukli, Old Agartala, Mohanpur, Bamutia, and Jirania blocks, ensuring balanced regional coverage.
A detailed list of beneficiary institutions includes:
-
Dukli Block:
• Belabar HS School
• IC Nagar HS School
• Anandnagar HS School -
Old Agartala Block:
• Durga Chowdhury Para Hemanta Smriti School
• Old Agartala School -
Mohanpur Block:

These institutions were chosen based on infrastructure needs, student population, and the absence of adequate purified water systems.
Focus on Student Welfare and Infrastructure Development
Officials from the Zilla Parishad emphasized that the project reflects their long-standing commitment to improving the basic infrastructure of educational institutions. They noted that safe drinking water is a critical component of a healthy school environment and is essential for student growth, concentration, and overall well-being.
A senior official said that ensuring access to pure, contamination-free drinking water is one of the Parishad’s top priorities, especially as schools prepare to meet modern hygiene standards. “Children deserve the best possible facilities. Providing safe drinking water not only supports their health but also enhances the overall learning atmosphere,” the official stated.
The project is also aligned with national health and education goals, including efforts to reduce the incidence of water-borne diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid, and jaundice among school-aged children.
Enhancing Educational Quality Through Infrastructure
The water purifier initiative is part of a larger strategy to upgrade schools across West Tripura. Zilla Parishad officials highlighted that improved infrastructure has a direct impact on academic performance and student retention. When schools are equipped with reliable drinking water, clean toilets, and safe environments, parents are more likely to send their children regularly—particularly in rural and economically disadvantaged areas.
Local community members and school authorities have welcomed the decision. Many expressed hope that the installation of modern purification systems would encourage similar projects in the future, such as rooftop water harvesting, sanitation facility upgrades, and better access to digital infrastructure.
Implementation to Begin Soon
According to the Zilla Parishad, the installation work will begin shortly, with technical teams scheduled to inspect the selected schools and finalize the placement of equipment. The machines will undergo regular maintenance checks to ensure uninterrupted supply of purified water throughout the year.
The Parishad has assured that this is only the beginning of a wider effort to strengthen school facilities in the district. More schools are expected to be covered in subsequent phases, depending on fund availability and infrastructural assessments.
With this initiative, West Tripura moves closer to providing healthier and safer educational spaces, demonstrating its commitment to the welfare of students across rural and urban blocks.
