Must Read

Bypolls to five Assembly seats in four states are being held today. While two Assembly Bypolls are being held in Gujarat, one each is taking place in Kerala, West Bengal and Punjab. The counting of votes will take place on Monday. In Gujarat, the bypoll to the Kadi seat was necessitated following the death of sitting MLA Karsanbhai Punjabhai Solanki. Another bypoll to the Visavadar seat in the state is taking place due to the resignation of the sitting member, Bhayani Bhupendrabhai Gandubhai. In Kerala, the Nilambur seat bypoll is taking place since P V Anvar has resigned, while a bypoll is being held in Punjab’s Ludhiana seat due to the death of sitting member Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. A by-election to the Kaliganj Assembly seat in West Bengal has been necessitated due to the death of sitting MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed.

In Punjab, voting is underway for the by-election for the Ludhiana West Assembly constituency. A total of 14 candidates are in the fray with all four major parties, the BJP, Congress, SAD and the incumbent AAP fielding candidates. The voting will continue till 6 pm. The authorities have made all necessary arrangements to conduct peaceful voting. A total of 1 lakh 75 thousand 469 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. The election in the Ludhiana West constituency became necessary after the death of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January this year. The results will be declared on June 23.

Voting is underway for the bypoll to the Nilambur Assembly constituency in Kerala. Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. Prominent among the ten candidates in the fray are M Swaraj of the CPI (M) led LDF, Aryadan Shoukath of the Congress-led UDF, Mohan George representing the NDA, and independent candidate P.V. Anvar. The by-election was necessitated following the resignation of MLA P.V. Anvar. Though traditionally a UDF stronghold, P.V. Anvar won the last two elections as an LDF-backed candidate. As the LDF and UDF focus on retaining their past vote shares, the NDA and P.V. Anvar are making vigorous efforts to attract maximum support. Over 2.3 lakh voters are eligible to vote in the constituency, which has 263 polling stations. Fourteen booths have been identified as sensitive. The counting of votes will take place on June 23.

By-elections in the two assembly seats in Gujarat are being held today. Voting began at 7 AM for the Visavadar and Kadi constituencies and will continue till 6 PM. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 23. Eight candidates are contesting from the Kadi Assembly seat, while sixteen candidates are in the fray for the Visavadar seat. Over five lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise across both constituencies. These seats fell vacant following the deaths of Bhupendra Bhayani from Visavadar and Karshan Solanki from Kadi.
