In Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has registered a resounding victory in the Nilambur Assembly by-election, with Congress candidate Aryadan Shoukath emerging as the winner. At the end of all 19 rounds of counting, Aryadan Shoukath secured over 77,000 votes, while LDF candidate M. Swaraj received more than 66,000 votes. Independent candidate P.V. Anvar garnered over 19,000 votes, and NDA candidate Mohan George received more than 8,500 votes. From the very first round of counting, the UDF maintained a clear lead. While the LDF settled into the second position, P.V. Anvar was able to demonstrate his continued influence in the constituency. The UDF workers celebrated reclaiming Nilambur, which was once considered a Congress stronghold.
The by-election was necessitated following the resignation of P.V. Anvar from the MLA post in January. The polling, held on June 19, saw a voter turnout of 75.27 percent.
