In a chilling case of heinous crimes against a minor, two individuals have been sentenced to death by Special Court Judge Anshuman Debbarma after being convicted of kidnapping, raping, and murdering a six-year-old girl in a case dating back to 2019. The sentencing follows the testimony of 41 witnesses.

The tragic incident unfolded on June 17, 2019, when a six-year-old girl disappeared from the Padmapur area in the evening. The girl’s mother reported her missing to the Dharmanagar women’s police station. The following morning, the lifeless body of the minor was discovered under the Kargil hill in Halflong, prompting a police investigation.

The suspects, identified as Sourav Chandra Nath (19) and Dibakar Das (20), both residents of the Padmapur area, were subsequently apprehended by the police. They faced charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 363 (kidnapping), Section 376B (rape), Section 373D (sexual assault on a minor), Section 302 (murder), and Section 201 (destruction of evidence).

After a thorough legal process and the testimony of 41 witnesses, Judge Angshuman Debbarma found both accused individuals guilty of their heinous crimes. During the proceedings, the convicts admitted before the judge that they had initially kidnapped the minor girl and took her to Kargil Hill in Halflong, where they subjected her to sexual assault, ultimately leading to her tragic demise due to the pain inflicted upon her.

The decision to impose the death penalty on the convicts reflects the gravity of the crimes committed and serves as a significant step towards seeking justice for the innocent victim and her grieving family.
